A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
I have only finished Part One of this book and it is no understatement to say that I am slightly traumatized by Mariam’s experiences. Hosseini has done a fabulous job of describing the people, places, and situations surrounding Mariam and it has honestly left me in awe, shock, and with trembling hands.
I’m fascinated about Afghanistan’s diverse landscape and Farsi sharing some common words with Hindi. However, how the media portrays Afghanistan right now is truly heartbreaking.
Having finished Part One, I’ve empathized and unfortunately visualized the trauma in Mariam’s life thus far: loss of a seemingly close family member, under-age marriage, forced relations, and marital abuse.
I now understand why so many TikTokers felt disturbed by this book and I can only imagine how they must have felt after reading other works by Khaled Hosseini.
In-depth review and my introspection on A Thousand Splendid Suns to be on my blog after I’m finished with it!
First A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara and now A Thousand Splendid Suns. I need to find happier books or just stick to self-help books until I can handle these deeply disturbing, descriptive books.
